The future is not what it used to be.

Allied nations are not a new phenomenon. Coalitions have formed or forged before to safeguard sovereignty and to protect more free and open societies. The foundational set of international rules, laws and norms that have provided stability and security for the past 80 years is being tested globally.

Key allied nations in Asia, Europe, and the Americas have long enjoyed close and cooperative relationships founded on shared interests, values and in some cases shared security concerns. These relationships are critical to promoting regional stability and prosperity and have been strengthened in recent years through a series of cooperative initiatives. However, the status quo that has led to decades of economic growth and security is being challenged.

In addition to traditional security threats, most nations also face hybrid challenges such as cyberattacks, including ransomware and hacks of critical infrastructure; threats to economic security stemming from coercion; vulnerable supply chains; thefts of technology and other intellectual property; disinformation and misinformation campaigns; and challenges surrounding critical and emerging technologies.

These challenges require new, rapid, and agile approaches to how allied nations work together, fund initiatives, build mutually beneficial industrial bases, train and develop workforce and embrace emerging and critical technologies.

Leveraging non-traditional forms of national security financing is a mindset shift for adopting new approaches that draw together academia, government, industry and finance.

Traditional siloed funding approaches are not going to enable the various regional security mechanisms (such as the Quad, AUKUS, the US–Australia–Japan trilateral strategic dialogue etc.) to fund all the initiatives required to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific

Two organizations in the Asia-Pacific region have joined forces and established an Allied Nations Consortium. The International Security Industry Council of Japan has partnered with the Hawaii-based Pacific Impact Zone to deliver this mission.

The Consortium brings together subject matter experts from all allied nations who bring decades worth of experience in national security, government, industry, and academia.

The Consortium’s aim is to build practical partnerships between governments, industries and civil society that help develop the industrial base, research and development, innovation, and technology development across the Consortium.

The capacity to form friendships, not just alliances or strategic partnerships, is, with magnanimity and political and military prudence, the central criterion“.
— Winston Churchill

One solution to meet this challenge and help enable and support government and industry requirements two leading Indo-Pacific focused organisations have joined forces and established an Allied Nations Consortium.

The International Security Industry Council of Japan, Australia, Canada, the UK, and NATO, has partnered with the US-based Pacific Impact Zone to deliver this mission.

The Consortium brings together subject matter experts from all allied nations who bring decades worth of experience in national security, government, industry and academia.

The Consortium’s aim is to build practical partnerships between governments, industries and the civil society that help develop the industrial base, research and development, innovation and technology development across the Consortium.
